1% HbA1c Reduction = Less Diabetes Complications क्या 1% HbA1c कमी से मधुमेह की जटिलताएं कम होती हैं
Published at : November 14, 2021
When we have #diabetes, we aim to control it by keeping our #FBS less than 120 mg/dL, our #PPBS (2hr) less than 180 mg/dL and #HbA1c less than 7%.
It has been seen that good control of diabetes over a long period of time helps us in preventing the onset and progression of #complications. So we do not treat diabetes to prevent #thirst and excessive #urination, but to basically prevent onset of 3 or 4 complications especially #nephropathy, #neuropathy, #retinopathy, & #cardiovascular complications.
So what is a good control in a patient with diabetes? An HbA1c of 7% or less. Yes. But more importantly every 1% reduction of HbA1c reduces the risk of complications:
#Stroke: 12%
#Heart Attack: 14%
#Cataract Extraction: 19%
Diabetes related #deaths: 21%
#Microvascular Complications: 37%
#Peripheral #Vascular Diseases – #Amputations – Deaths: 43%
This is based on the famous #UKPDS 35 study published in the prestigious #BMJ in 2000.
You can see in the chart how much benefit a diabetes can have if s/he reduces HbA1c by 1%. So if your HbA1c is 9% and you reduce it by 2% to 7% or less, you can realise how much risk you have cut down.
How to reduce HbA1c is a an important question. So do it by taking care of #Diet, #Exercising, and #Medicines. You can learn more from my famous video on the topic: 10 Ways to Reduce HbA1c. The link has been provided in the description below and you can check the thumbnail on my channel.
